So like many of you, I had the ugly faded fender trim pieces. I finally got around to taking care of it and saw this product at the local parts store, Bondo brand Restore Black. So i picked it up and read the box and was like, This is probably better than paint since it is absorbed into the plastic since it is a dye.

So I bought, I figured $10 was fair enough to do what I was wanting. And I have always had good luck with other Bondo products.

So I followed the directions on the box and after the first coat I was very impressed, so i did another. More impressed, but it wasnt quite right. So a third coat goes on, I like it.

The only draw back is that the pores on the applicator sponge are large, so it is a little streaky up close, but from about 4 ft back, it looks good!! I will probably use a better sponge and do a 4th coat.

So here are the pictures, After and Before. And I got these results in about 1.5 hours.

That does look pretty good, how easy is it to work with around where the flares meet the tub, and the lights and such?

Pretty easy, I just ran the applicator along the edges as close to the tub, lights, fuel cap and rear license frame as I could and I just wiped off the gel that got on any of the lights or on the tub with a wet cloth after it had dried.

Did you get all 4 coats from just one bottle, I guess what I am trying to ask, did it cost you 10 bucks to do your whole Jeep?

Keep us updated, I would like to know how it looks after say 3 months or so.

I got all the coats from one bottle, and I would say that the bottle is easily still at least half full. Bet I could do a couple more sets of 4 coats easy. And it can be used on vinyl and rubber as well, so trim and tires are ok also.

It says that it should last up to 6 months, but I will for sure keep everyone posted. Will take a photo at 3 months and then again at 6 months.

I did the flares at all 4 wheels, inside the gas filler area, and the rear license plate holder. Could have done the door jambs and the front sway bar cover, but they are fine as they have not seen as much sun.

Works really good. I keep looking at them in awe of how of how good they make the Jeep look now and wonder how I could have let them be faded as long as I did since it was so easy to do.

Here is an update:

It has been about 4 months since I applied this product. I did not get around to doing a final 4th coat with a better applicator. You can see that the front still looks the same, the top does too, but the sun shining directly on and it being dirty makes it look more faded that it actually is.

Here is the sequence:

Before, After and Today:

I will look on the bottle and see what all materials it can be used on. I know it says plastic, vinyl and rubber. It pretty much is a dye, so I would think it would be possible for use on fiberglass, but you never can tell.

I would like to recommend SEM trim black.
You can get it at your local body shop paint supplier, or O'Reilleys
about $12 a can. Accept no substitutes.
